SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME
Ask the learner to show the method before correcting the final number. Check whether the issue concerns the concept, the procedure, arithmetic or interpretation of the question. Repeating an entire chapter may be less useful than addressing one specific gap and trying a fresh example. Keep the original attempt so the child can compare it with an improved solution.
A practical starting point
- Keep the original attempt
- Name the exact error
- Explain the correction
- Try a different question using the same idea
What to notice
Ask the learner to explain why the revised method works. A copied correction alone does not show understanding.
Review after trying the approach
Ask what became easier, where support is still needed and what to try next. Keep a small sample and compare it with the earlier attempt. Adjust the plan in response to the learner rather than repeating an unhelpful routine.
What could you ask TRICEF?
Contact the team with the current class, board, teaching language and a specific learning question. The team can explain current programmes and the support that may be suitable.
