SUPPORTING LEARNING AT HOME
Begin with the need: understanding concepts, practising answers, maintaining a routine or preparing for a specific examination. Ask how the teacher will identify the starting point and discuss progress. Confirm the subject, board, teaching language and current arrangements. A high rating or an impressive claim is useful to investigate, but neither by itself proves a class is suitable for your child.
A practical starting point
- Name the main learning goal
- Ask about the teaching approach
- Check current practical arrangements
- Discuss how progress is reviewed
What to notice
Request specific explanations and examples. Avoid choosing solely on promises of guaranteed marks or ranks.
Review after trying the approach
Ask what became easier, where support is still needed and what to try next. Keep a small sample and compare it with the earlier attempt. Adjust the plan in response to the learner rather than repeating an unhelpful routine.
What could you ask TRICEF?
Contact the team with the current class, board, teaching language and a specific learning question. The team can explain current programmes and the support that may be suitable.
